This was my first trip to Japan and my friend recommended this product. I was worried that I inputted the hotel information wrong so I put a note saying this was my first time. Upon arriving at the hotel, there was no problems, the front desk handed over the big envelope that had the return envelope, the cable, the charger, and the pocket itself protected by bubble wrap. Each night I would fully charge it and each day, I would bring the cable and a power bank just in case the battery ran out. There was no need, as it lasts all day, although I wasn't really on my phone all day to use the data. On the night we were scheduled to return, the Haneda accident occurred, and I decided to keep the device an extra day. I was able to easily extend my order. All the flights out of Haneda were totally booked or probably canceled, so we needed to stay an extra day. Again, I was able to extend my order an additional day without any problems. Easy to use product, fantastically simple to use website, and a great peace of mind that I did not need to worry about data in a different country. 12/10 would recommend again.

Return was even easier, right in the mailbox outside our AirBnb. It worked seamlessly, except on 3 or 4 occasions the device needed a Power Off / Power On cycle as it would lock up. This was not detrimental to this review. Over 89 days, We deem that to be acceptable. We would definitely return to this company and this product when we return to Japan for our 9th trip in the future.

After not finding any reviews for LightPocket (on any English websites) plus one mention from a 2018 online article, needless to say I was sceptical. Not only did everything go extremely smoothly, the return was a breeze. Delivered to our hotel, English instructions plus return envelope included, charger had an extra USB port, barely any signal loss during our 2 week use, and the Haneda Airport red postbox was near the blue escalators (last pick up 6:25pm). The only thing to flag is your travel group need to be near the router at all times; if you're going to split up, consider SIMs. Was LightPocket's rental worth a go? Absolutely!

Absolutely loved this service! I got the highspeed unlimited pocket wifi and it came with everything I needed = cord, plug, router with easy to find network name and password, AND a self addressed envelope for return. Just drop in the mail box (which (As of Dec 7,2022) there is one at Terminal 3 in Haneda check in, just in case you forget!) and be done! I had great service 99% of the time, and apparently I never went over my high speed data limit. I was on Facebook, Instagram, sending my family pics via Whatsapp and even did a few Whatsapp video calls. The video streaming wasn't as good as maybe at a hotel, but it was pretty good honestly. And when my husband finally joined me, he could easily join the network without having buy a sim chip, set anything up, blah blah blah. Just give him the password and done! Great for google maps, which is a must for me! I am not the heaviest data user and I didn't go to a ton of rural places, so if that sounds like you, you'll love this! And its such a good price, especially for a long term option (46 days for me!). Everything else was looking at double or more!

Works as advertised. Didn't really notice any speed reduction beyond 200GB for the global "Cloud wifi". Speed is really limited by the 2.4GHz wifi (~15-25 mbps). For the Sofbank regular SIM Pocket WiFi the LTE itself is faster (~40-45 mbps) as well than 2.4GHz wifi can handle. Thank you.

100GB monthly allowance and renews the following month. What I did not like was I was instructed to add the daily GB usage from each device. Oh, well, do you add the daily usage of two iPhones and two laptops every day before the clock shows 12 AM? And, customer service. It took 5 and half hours before I was able to clear the PCR test, installation, and confirmation of x4 apps working, verify the address for the next 14 days of the self-isolation, immigration, and customs. By the time I was in the arrival lobby, Narita airport's post office was closed. I sent them an email, and in a few hours a reply came in, and I received the WiFi at a different address. That was easy and painless.

Due to corona, I liked the price discount. 60 days for approx 12,000 yen. taxed in. Lightpocket's regular pricing is kind of expensive to be honest, if they kept their pricing as the specials now, it would be pretty affordable given the unlimited data cap. I've experienced no data cap essentially, passing 100GB with the occasional network glitch which requires a reboot of the pocket wifi and all is good. Speeds are at best 5MB/s down. I was hoping for more, but that's just a network and device limitation I hope.

Once I had the device in had it was great, but I was flying in to Itami Airport after usual business hours and as such could not pick the device up at the airport. I had to have it shipped to a Post Office near my AirBnB unit the next morning. This made getting from the airport to my AirBnB very difficult, especially after 26 hours of travel and no sleep. Also, I had spoken to a representative to get the shipping address switched from the airport to a Post Office after I became aware of the problem, and received notice that it had been shipped to the airport after all. The representative fixed the problem and had it reshipped as soon as I reached back out, but had I not noticed that email I would've been sunk.

All in all I was very happy with the service. I had no problems with delivery and the simcard worked perfectly. The only drawback I experienced was that the instructions were not extremely clear on how to adjust my phone (iphone) to have the mobile network details (APN details) setup. It did not say I should download the profile details while connected to Internet from another network (possibly a Wifi). I strictly followed the instructions, so I replaced my simcard but I could not download the profile (as my mobile network was not setup properly at that moment). It took me quite a long time and many attempts until I realized that I perhaps try downloading the profile over wifi. I almost returned the simcard for that. I like reliable delivery and simple return procedure with package tracking. No problems with network coverage during our trip (including remote areas in Japanese Alps). The only problem I had was charging the router. I had to follow a specific procedure to fully charge it (turn off, plug charger in, turn on, turn off). Otherwise the router was charged up only by 10-15% for 6 hours. I had to find out this procedure on my own, because it differs from what was described in leaflets provided by you (the router didn't turn on automatically when charger was plugged in)

Using this pocket wifi company was super easy and reliable! We picked up the package containing the pocket wifi from the airport post office right after we landed. The post office was easy to find, pick-up was fast and easy, and setting up the wifi and getting connected to the wifi took seconds. We had no problems with connection or the actual device throughout our 3 weeks in Japan (traveling both in large cities and in small mountain villages). Battery lasted a long time, we made sure to switch it off when we didn't use it and so we only had to charge it every 3-4 days. We rented the 500MB WiFi. As far as connectivity and speed it was a great device. The device was mailed to our hotel. We mainly used it to get around using google maps, google translate, email and web searches. We exceeded the data limit two of the days then the speed slowed as expected. The rest of the trip we only turned it on when we were searching for something or lost which happened a lot. At home we rarely exceed 250MB of data so we thought the 500MB plan would be more than enough, but I guess we underestimated the data we would need. Next time we will go with the unlimited plan. Overall a good device at a reasonable price

I used the Pocket WiFi SoftBank Unlimited 15 Days Rental. It was amazing. I had it running pretty much all day and it lasted for the whole time we were out. We would go back to rest in the early evening and charge it back up so it would run all evening. The connection was as amazing. Could stream videos without an issue. Even worked in the subways when at the subway stops to check to make sure we were on the right route. Would definitely use it the next time I am in Japan. The customer service is great also. I wrote the wrong date on a comment and someone from the office emailed me to confirm which date I wanted the pocket wifi. Just drop it off at any mailbox to return it. Easy as can be.

The device worked very well. It always worked when we were on land, the only time we didn't get a signal was when we were on a cruise ship far from shore. Battery life was excellent; the device never ran out of power even when being used most of the day. It was small and convenient, easy to put in our daypack or camera bag or in a pocket if needed. The light pocket WiFi was well worth having on our trip round Japan. There wa much more WiFi available than we expected in hotels and in some towns but a number of times we found ourselves needing information or translation when none was available. For example we were able to book a hotel and car while travelling on a train. Some trains had WiFi but not the Shikansen, surprisingly. Our Japanese grinds also found it useful to hook up to. We would recommend this service which was efficient and good value. Easy to return and we had it delivered to our friend’s house.For us it was better than having a sim as our phones only take one card.
